Assessments

Fall Semester

Formative assessments:

  • Progress Checks in Projects
    • For example, reviewing a student’s partially finished drawing or project mid-way through the unit.
  • Peer Critiques
    • Students give each other feedback using structured prompts like “I notice...” and “I wonder...”

Summative assessments:

  • Measurement Accuracy Task
    • Students are given a task (e.g., draw a rectangle 4.5 cm × 9 cm, divide it into equal parts) and assessed on correct use of ruler and units.
  • Final Technical Drawing Project
    • Students submit a clean, accurate drawing (e.g., paper pyramid, geometric drawing), graded with a rubric (precision, use of tools, layout).

Spring Semester

Formative assessments:

    • Students are given a task (e.g., making origami, following the teacher's directions step by step). After the task is finished, we reflect on the do’s and don’ts.

    • Students submit a clean, accurate project (e.g., cardboard birdhouse, origami, drawing of a design), graded with a rubric (precision, use of tools, layout).
You can further support your child by encouraging them to have a proactive artist mindset. All students will have a sheet in the front of their sketchbooks which encourage students to think about how they can improve their skills in a proactive way. Please encourage your child to have a go at all art activities, regardless of their ability or prior experience within art. They all have the capability to create great art work and we will be there to help them to develop their skills to the best of their ability.
